Housed within the former Royal Naval Bakery in Vittoriosa (also known as Birgu), one of the Three Cities across the Grand Harbour from Valletta, the Malta Maritime Museum charts the island’s seafaring history. Spanning several millennia, the museum’s extensive collection includes artifacts related to the Order of St. John, the Royal Navy, and the Merchant Navy, alongside models of ships that have been part of Malta’s maritime story.
The museum is a treasure trove for those interested in exploring Malta’s strategic importance in the Mediterranean, its naval battles, and its evolution as a maritime center. Exhibits range from ancient maritime artifacts to more modern naval equipment, reflecting the island’s long and diverse connection with the sea. The building itself, a piece of Malta’s British colonial heritage, adds an authentic historical context to the museum’s exhibits.
