Old Fish Market (Il-Pixkerija)

The Old Fish Market, known locally as “Il-Pixkerija,” is a symbol of Valletta’s maritime heritage, located close to the waterfront. Built in the 1860s, this 19th-century industrial architecture served as a bustling hub for fishermen and merchants selling their daily catch. Though the fish market has moved, the building remains a striking reminder of Valletta’s vibrant commercial past and deep connection to the sea.

Currently repurposed for events and cultural activities, Il-Pixkerija retains its historical charm while contributing to the city’s contemporary cultural life. Its revitalization is part of broader efforts to preserve Valletta’s historical sites, ensuring they remain relevant and accessible to future generations.
